Fundamental Berlin: Redefining Design with Purpose and Precision
Exploring the Intersection of Functionality, Mathematics, and Emotion in Modern Design
In the evolving landscape of contemporary design, the balance between form and function has become more critical than ever. As designers strive to create pieces that not only serve a practical purpose but also resonate emotionally with users, the fusion of aesthetics, utility, and meaning emerges as a powerful guiding principle. This is the foundation upon which Fundamental Berlin was built—a design company that challenges conventional norms by integrating mathematical principles, artistic collaboration, and a human touch into their creations.
Founded by Gunnar Lohmann-Rönsch and Stephen Molloy, Fundamental Berlin is the result of a shared vision to create design objects that are both striking and functional. Their approach combines the precision of mathematics with a playful sense of experimentation, resulting in products that push the boundaries of traditional design while remaining deeply practical and accessible.
One of Fundamental Berlin's latest works is the SMILE paperweight, a collaboration with Berlin-based video artist Christoph Gromer. This piece captures Gromer's joyful celebration of light in a sculptural form, combining a futuristic aesthetic with traditional craftsmanship in hand-cut and polished lead crystal glass.
Join Fundamental Berlin on September 5th, 2024, at the Himmel über Design Unique Event, where they will showcase their latest work, including the SMILE paperweight, and discuss their design approach and philosophy alongside other visionary creators like Christopher Sitzler.
