End of November 2024, aēsplore led a small group of aesthetic explorers on a thoughtfully curated weekend retreat in the picturesque town of Greyton. This immersive experience seamlessly blended architecture, art, and creativity, offering participants a memorable escape filled with unique encounters and meaningful connections with local artisans.

The weekend began with an unforgettable moonlight dinner at Maanskyn restaurant, where the group was treated to a delightful meal prepared by owner Lori. The evening was further elevated by an enchanting musical performance by Lori’s husband, Aron Halevi, who teamed up with local artist Divine Mahara to create a magical atmosphere. The night culminated in a spontaneous jam session, joined by singer and poet performance artist Texas, adding an intimate creative energy to the event.

Saturday’s creative journey continued with a brunch at Pure Cafe, hosted by Julie Graham. The highlight of this gathering was an exclusive art exhibition by local artist Marcel Herholdt, whose powerful Afro-pop protest art delves into themes of authority and personal freedom. Marcel shared his story and inspiration with the group, providing a rare glimpse into his creative process.

One of the standout moments of the Greyton Escape was the visit to the architecturally stunning home “Wild Fig,” designed by renowned architect Amé Venter. Participants were given a personal tour by Amé herself, who shared insights into her design philosophy and the inspiration behind this beautifully crafted home.

Ulli Pridat, one of the participants, reflected on the experience, saying, “This was a truly inspiring weekend getaway. Everything was thoughtfully curated, from the architecturally stunning accommodation to the creative, inspiring visits and the amazing culinary experiences. We left not only inspired but also with new connections.”

The weekend was finished with a private tour of the local artist studio Parker + Laird. This sculptural duo is known for their environmental narrative, crafting exquisite works from alien woods found in the Western Cape. Chris Parker of Parker + Laird, remarked, “We were honored to welcome the aēsplore travel group. It was an incredible opportunity to bring our art to life by sharing the original story behind it and connecting with like-minded individuals passionate about craft and creativity.”

The Greyton Escape exemplifies aēsplore’s mission to create enriching travel experiences that explore the intersection of design, art, and culture. Each experience is tailored to foster deeper connections with local creatives and to offer participants unique, behind-the-scenes access to the places and people that make each destination special.
